Very Sad! Instead of receiving more financial support (recommended by the CDC) to help improve the health of West Virginian's, we will be receving less and in some cases nothing at all. West Virginians deserve better!

Sad that with all that needs to be addressed that each side of the Legsislature has just taken up 70 - 80 bills! Only ONE bill to date signed into law by the Governor from this Session!!

No one will really understand politics until they understand that politicians are not trying to solve anyone's problems. They are trying to solve their own problems - of which getting elected and re-elected are number one and number two. Whatever is ...number three is far behind. ---Thomas Sowell

Does anyone listen to whats going on in WV. The rate for illnesses from tobacco smoke (second also) in this state are outragious. When will you wake up. Tobacco products and second hand smoke is taking its tole on our people in this state. Cutting funding will only make it worse, who's protecting the people working in restaurants and bars that can't find a smoke free establishment. Protect our workers now and keep the funding where it is.

HB 2808 – This is a very serious threat to the core of WV Public Health System. This bill would remove the long standing law shielding board of health members from political influence, Currently, county commissioners only have the authority to appoint BOH members but not remove them. The state health officer and the board of health itself can remove a BOH member for a variety of misconducts. This political shielding allows appointed board of health members to make tough public health decisions, not always popular but necessary to protect the masses, whether its food air or water protection. This helps ensure public health consider is given above all else. This dangerous bill would now allow a county commission to remove BOH members. This is a way to control the passage of clean air regulations and remove members so they can overturn current regulations.

The Board of Health would be shirking their duty if they left this issue unaddressed. The BOH is not a branch of the Chamber of Commerce-- they are responsible for protecting the public health. Clean Indoor Air in all public venues is a must! I congratulate them for taking this issue on and look forward to the new regulations passing!

This bill should be passed! Simply because people like my husband, who has been suffering from lung disease for years and just recently received a double lung transplant, can not attend places that allow smoking. This limits the places of business we can go to. We used to enjoy going out and listening to music, but it's near impossible to find a place anymore that doesn't allow smoking. My husband's lung disease was not his fault, so why should he continue to be penalized for other's actions? Institute a ban on public smoking in places of business and give others the freedom to enjoy a life outside the walls of their homes!

I want my health board to handle health issues. I do not want politicians on the county commission doing the health board's job. HB2932 is a continuation of Billy Wayne Bailey's primitive thinking. Please do not hinder West Virginia's progress into the 21st century. I want to be proud of my state.

Thank you,

Everyday you see another example of our failed public health and safety polices due to the influence of big money and special interests. Boards of health are intentionally appointed to shield them from political influence. Local Boards of Health across the country remain the safety net for ensuring the protection of the public’s health above all else! Boards of health are credited for establishing the foundation for many of state and federal public health and safety laws. It took 3 board of health adopting local regulations that cleaned up trans fatty acids out of our national food supply!
The most protective and effective laws start from the bottom up and lay the foundation for many state and federal laws. This tobacco industry bill is designed to stifle our boards of health ability to protect and promote public health with their communities.

If the ultimate consideration and protection of the public health doesn’t happen through appointed boards, mandated to protect us, it will never happen at any other level of government! LOCAL CONTROL WORTH PROTECTING!
